Validation of Lithium batteries and their required active battery protection systems (BPS) has been a part of scrutineering.  Here are some common issues to prepare for prior to inspection and testing at the event.

1) Completed scrutineering sheet with test limits (fill out your paper work)

2) Bring all documentation, schematics, spec sheets, and code.

3) Understand your data sheets and how the maximum limit specifications should not be your BPS guard rail settings under dynamic operating conditions.

4) Have required tools to open boxes, expose wiring, and adjust settings.

5) Have at least one systems expert(rested and awake) and assistant present to explain and perform test.

6) Have break out boards, leads, or accessible connection points for inserting voltages into BPS.

7) Be on time.  Even if system is not 100%, advice and partial test can focus where time needs to be spent to be race ready.

8 ) Read and practice the test document ahead of time. Run some miles on the vehicle to see that the BPS will operate with all the systems together.

9) Have a method for locking out system so it can't be altered after testing(the values you test with are what you race with).

10) Bring spare components in case the ones you have stop working or don't operate as designed.
