The American Solar Challenge (ASC) is a competition to design, build and race solar-powered cars in a cross-country event.
ASC promotes:
- A greater understanding of solar energy technology, its environmental benefits and its promise for the future;
- Educational excellence in science, engineering and mathematics—and the creative integration of technical and scientific expertise across a range of disciplines;
- And, a “hands-on” opportunity for students and engineers to develop and demonstrate their technical and creative abilities.
The Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) is a track style event that provides teams the oppertunity to test and compete off the open road.

Innovators Educational Foundation
The Innovators Educational Foundation is an organization devoted to educational opportunities where students are challenged with “hands-on” learning experiences in the areas of science, engineering, and technology. Supported activities push students to think “outside the box” to be innovative with ideas that will lead to developing better solutions to society’s challenges faced here in the United States and around the world. Our mission to engage young minds from elementary, secondary, and higher education hopes to develop more world leaders in these critical areas that affect everyone.
The American Solar Challenge and the Formula Sun Grand Prix is a unique learning experience that challenges students from higher education to develop an original design solution that addresses areas of energy management, transportation, and high tech materials. The cross country race provides a great outreach activity to inspire people from all walks of life while celebrating the success for so many of our future scientist and engineers. The vehicles developed allow for further outreach opportunities with students from K – 12 that will hopefully inspire additional students to seek careers in these critical fields of study.
The Innovators Educational Foundation is a 501c3 organization that is supported with 100% volunteers from all across the United States. Our volunteers give of their time freely understanding the importance of education and the impact that real experiences have in a learning environment.
