July 28, 2005 - "In Their Own Words"
The awards ceremony and BBQ dinner on the campus of the University of Calgary was a fitting end. Many awards were given out, all of them much deserved. Afterwards, as the teams swapped Tee shirts and said their last goodbyes, some wanted to part with these words. "I learned a lot...mostly about myself." – Brian Ignaut, Michigan Team Member "Principia is delighted to rayce among so many awesome teams. All of our goals have been met, and we will always remember this rayce. Beauty, eh?" – Robyn "This project and this rayce represent everything that college courses could never cover." – Justin, Team PrISUm "Building a solar car is a two-year project that draws on knowledge acquired over two decades. Every generation comes up with a new solution to the same problem: batteries, array, aerodynamics, and suspension. In much the same way, the human race is trying to solve the same problems our ancestors struggled with: food and water resources, health, communication, transportation and improving quality of life for our descendants. Designing a solar car reinforces the idea that we must learn from and draw on the technology and ideas of the past to temper and forge the new ideas of the future." – Justin Wilson, Mizzou If you have the right group of people, and you never give up, pretty much nothing can stop you." – Queen's University "One of the most gratifying things about being part of this project is the interaction that occurs between all the teams. It's not a race against each other, it's a race with each other." – Western Michigan University Many thanks to all the sponsors and staff who made this wonderful event possible.
