The KSU Solar Car Racing Team was formed in 1995 and the first car, Solution, was raced in Sunrayce 97 and placed 24th out of 36 teams. The second car, Apollo, was raced from Washington D.C. to Orlando in Sunrayce 99 and placed 9th out of 32 teams. CATalyst, the third and newest car, raced to a fifth place finish in the 2001 American Solar Challenge in a field of 30 teams. Both Apollo and CATalyst were raced in the 2002 Formula Sun Grand Prix where Catalyst finished 3rd in open class, 3rd overall and Apollo finished 1st in stock class, 6th overall.
