It’s been a long time coming, but we are pleased to finally be able to announce the 2016 American Solar Challenge dates and route. The event will take place from Jul 22 – Aug 6, 2015. Scrutineering inspections and the FSGP 2016 qualifier will be held at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex (Pitt Race) in Wampum, PA. ASC 2016 will be an 8 day 1800+ mile road rally from Brecksville, OH to Hot Springs, SD. We are partnering with National Park Service as part of their 2016 Centennial to bring the event to 9 national parks, historic sites, or partner properties throughout the Midwest. FSGP 2015 was the best Formula Sun we’ve had to date! Of the 15 teams that came, 14 of them passed scrutineering to get on the track. We also had all teams represented at the first Team Meeting on Sunday morning. Despite a concert Tuesday night that meant an early end to Dynamics at 4pm, almost all teams completed dynamics before then, making for the least amount of dynamics scrutineering while the track event was going on that we can ever remember. So many good things to report, and a big thank you to the teams, sponsors, and event staff that made it happen! Congratulations to the top three teams below for their excellent performance at Circuit of The Americas this year. For complete results, please see the FSGP 2015 page.
- Iowa State: PrISUM – 223 laps (764 mi)
- Poly Montreal: Esteban – 192 laps (658 mi)
- Illinois State – 185 laps (634 mi)
Fastest Lap: Iowa State (4 min 30.444 sec)
Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) 2015 kicks off Sun Jul, 26 with team check in and scrutineering beginning in the morning. So how can you follow the event?
While Scrutineering tech inspections are underway during the first 3 days of the event, we’ll be periodically updating team Scrutineering status on the FSGP 2015 Status Board (check the time stamp at the bottom of the Scrutineering board for the time of the last update). Before teams are allowed on the track they must achieve all greens or blues at every Scrutineering station.
Once the FSGP 2015 race begins on Wednesday, we will be posting team lap count updates at the main FSGP 2015 Page (check the time stamp at the bottom of the list for the time of the last update). If you are in the Austin area, keep in mind that Friday is the Official Public Day at Circuit of The Americas which will be free for anyone to attend and see the cars up close.
If you are interested in more frequent updates, be sure to keep your eyes peeled on our Twitter and Facebook feeds. Use the official hashtag #FSGP2015. We’ll also be posting lots of photos throughout the event to our Flickr page.
We’re thankful to have UT Austin’s Cockrell School of Engineering back as a sponsor of FSGP 2015 this summer. They will be hosting us on campus for the awards dinner and ceremony Friday, July 31st! Over the past few years they have been instrumental in helping us coordinate competitions at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, TX.
We’re pleased to announce that PF Jones has become our newest sponsor for FSGP 2015! They offer a great selection of high quality tow bars for just about all auto makers out there. Be sure to check out their website if you are ever in need of tow bars or related accessories.
